Large fire shutter openings require more than simply increasing the size of a standard door.

For a project in Mongolia, Huadun was asked to provide customized fire shutter systems for several large openings, including openings exceeding 11 meters in width. 

The project required careful coordination between the opening dimensions, available installation space and the operating structure of the shutter.

Several opening sizes were involved in the project, including:

9,000 × 3,900 mm

11,500 × 4,300 mm

11,500 × 4,330 mm

7,800 × 3,000 mm

Because of the size of the openings, the system could not simply be treated as a conventional small fire shutter.

The Challenge

One of the main considerations was the relationship between the structural opening, beam height and finished ceiling.

The available installation space had to accommodate the shutter box, curtain system and supporting structure without interfering with the usable opening below.

Large-width shutters also place greater demands on system stability and synchronized operation.

For this reason, the project required a configuration specifically designed around the actual opening conditions rather than a standard-size solution.

Huadun's Solution

After reviewing the dimensions and installation conditions, Huadun proposed a double-track dual-curtain inorganic fabric fire shutter system.

The design used two independent curtain layers together with a double-track arrangement.

The system was also configured with a gravity fail-safe closing function so that the shutter could descend under emergency conditions according to the designed control logic.

For the large openings, the drive and supporting structure were selected according to the size and load of the system.

Particular attention was also paid to the upper installation area because sufficient space had to be reserved for the shutter mechanism while maintaining the required clear height below.

Manufacturing and Packing

Due to the dimensions of the project, many components were manufactured specifically for the corresponding opening rather than taken from standard stock sizes.

Before shipment, the system components were organized and packed according to the project openings to simplify identification and installation after arrival.

For oversized door systems, packing is especially important because long structural components and curtain assemblies must be protected during long-distance transportation.
